Gurugram metro construction to begin on May 1, 2025: Haryana CM



Construction of the Gurugram Metro is scheduled to commence on May 1, 2025, as announced by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. This significant infrastructure project aims to enhance urban mobility and connectivity within Gurugram and its neighboring regions.


Project Overview


  • Route & Length:The metro line will span 28.5 kilometers, connecting Millennium City Centre (HUDA City Centre) to Cyber City. A 1.85 km spur will link Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway at Sector 101. The entire corridor will be elevated and will include 27 stations, with a depot interchange at HUDA City Centre for seamless connectivity with Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line.

  • Phase 1 Details:The initial phase involves constructing a 15.2 km viaduct with 14 elevated stations, stretching from HUDA City Centre to Sector 9. This segment is estimated to cost ₹1,286 crore.

  • Technology & Operations:The metro will operate on a standard gauge track using Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling, allowing a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Initially, trains will comprise three coaches, expandable to six as demand increases.


Financial Aspects


  • Total Project Cost:The entire project is estimated at ₹5,452.72 crore.

  • Funding:The Central Government will contribute ₹896.19 crore, while the Haryana Government will fund ₹4,556.53 crore.


Timeline & Implementation


  • Construction Start: May 1, 2025

  • Expected Completion: Mid-2029 (within four years)


Additional Infrastructure

To support the metro system, five underpasses and flyovers are planned to ensure smooth traffic flow during and after construction.

This metro expansion is poised to significantly improve public transportation in Gurugram, offering residents a reliable and efficient alternative to road travel.
